Combing my daughter's hair is no easy feat. She surely reminds me every other weekend that combing her hair is not going to be an easy task. In fact I dread the day when it's time to take down a hairstyle cause i know that means I'm in for about a hour of crying, whining for her daddy, awkward positions and for sure back pain. It never fails. I often try to enlist in her TT CiCi to come over and braid her hair because most times she doesn't give her as much trouble. (Cause we all know Marli be faking and just doesn't want ME in her head). But when she is unavailable its up to me to make sure her hair is good standing for the week.
I have had locs in my hair for almost the past 10 years ( minus the 2 years i cut my hair and started over). So dealing with natural unloc'd hair, is a struggle of me. Every 2 weeks I try to wash/co wash and condition her hair. In my mind the wet hair will make my struggle of combing her hair easier. - really it doesn't. Then i set out to braid or pony tail her hair.
There has been some times when I have spent an hour or more doing her hair only to be completely disgusted with the style. However, when I get a day like today, where her hair is on fleek, I become overwhelmingly excited. I usually have at least 2 kari shells in my hair at any given time. For me its hair jewelry and good luck. I one day while just playing around added a few to Marli's hair and she LOVED IT! Every since then she prefers the shells over traditional barrettes.
Today after about an hour I was able to finish her hair style for the week. Cornrows in the front and 2-strand twists in the back. My baby heir was so pleased with her hair! She ran to the mirror, and said "momma I'm pretty" ! That comment made by back pain so very worth it.
I hope this hair style can at least hold up for at least a week and a half.
When she turns 3, Im locing her hair. yep. already decided.
Oh, and i got my hair slayed this weekend too....
